National Summit for Green Cleaning in Schools

Green cleaning leaders announce the introduction of the Illinois Green Clean Schools Act. From L-R: Jacob Powell (Tennant Company), Vince Fagan (United Supply Company), Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn, Rep. Karen May, Rochelle Davis (Healthy Schools Campaign), and Dan Casasanto (Jones College Prep High School).

Working with a coalition of industry leaders, educators and advocates, the Healthy Schools Campaign was instrumental in passing 2007 legislation making Illinois the second state in the nation to require green cleaning in schools. Manufacturers and distributors of cleaning products were key to the success of the legislation. Their participation in the coalition and testimony to state legislators sent the important message that green cleaning is an effective, affordable, realistic solution for schools. Through the coalition, industry leaders in Illinois were able to make connections and align their brand with a high-profile effort to protect children's health and our environment.
