Green Clean Schools Webinar Series

American School & University, the Green Clean Network, and Healthy Schools Campaign are pleased to announce a summer series of free green cleaning webinars that will help your school begin a green cleaning program or take your green cleaning to the next level.

All webinars include expert insight and practical advice from a highly-regarded panel of green cleaning leaders including Steve Ashkin of the Ashkin Group LLC, Healthy Schools Campaign Deputy Director Mark Bishop, and award-winning facilities managers from schools recognized in the first annual Green Cleaning in Schools awards.

Speaker Bios

Sean Arnold
Maintenance Custodial Supervisor, Hernando County Schools

Sean Arnold brought the first district-wide Green Cleaning Program to a Florida School District as the Maintenance Custodial Supervisor for Hernando County Schools. He has 10 years of facilities maintenance and operations experience, including work as the Superintendent of Maintenance and Facilities at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in New York. The green cleaning program he implemented there was so successful that in 2003 he headed up the conversion of the County Parks and Recreation Department to green cleaning. In 2005 he brought those lessons to the classrooms of Florida and won the grand award in the Green Cleaning Awards sponsored by AS&U, HSC, and the Green Cleaning Network.

Stephen P. Ashkin
President, The Ashkin Group, LLC

President of The Ashkin Group, LLC, Steve has been a leader in the effort to green the cleaning and maintenance industry for 15 years. Steve is a prolific writer, speaker and advocate for safer and healthier cleaning methods. Author of the Quick and Easy Guide to Green Cleaning in Schools, along with a wide range of articles and publications including Green Cleaning for Dummies, Steve has introduced green cleaning to numerous school districts and is an advisor to the Healthy Schools Campaign.

Mark Bishop
Deputy Director, Healthy Schools Campaign

As Deputy Director of the Healthy Schools Campaign, Mark was instrumental in bringing the Green Clean Schools Act to Illinois, now the second state in the nation to require green cleaning in schools. Mark has a strong background working on indoor air quality issues with five years at the American Lung Association of Eastern Missouri as director of Environmental Programs. At the ALAEM, Mark directed state-wide environmental health education campaigns and policy initiatives. He was also instrumental in developing The Quick & Easy Guide to Green Cleaning in Schools.

Eva Detloff
Nursing Supervisor, Barrington School District

Eva Detloff has more than ten years experience in school nursing and is currently the Nursing Supervisor for Barrington CUSD 220, in Barrington, Ill. She is an active member of the Healthy School's Campaign's School Nurse Advisory Committee and School Nurse Leadership Program wellness and green cleaning initiatives. As a representative for the Illinois Association of School Nurses (IASN), she served on the Green Government Coordinating Council's Committee to create the Illinois Guidelines for Green Cleaning in Schools. Eva serves as the secretary for the Northeast Division of the IASN and received their School Nurse Administrator of the Year Award. She also received an EPA scholarship to the National Annual Indoor Air Quality Conference.

Tommy Little
Manager of Building Services, Georgia Institute of Technology

Tommy Little is Manager of Building Services at Georgia Institute of Technology. He has 20 years of experience in facilities maintenance and operation. He was awarded the 2008 Environmental Leadership Award at Georgia Tech and the Effective and Innovative Practices Award in 2006 from APPA, the professional association for educational facilities management. He also received the Most Informative Booth Award for his green cleaning exhibit at the 2007 Georgia Tech Earth Day event. Tommy won honorable mention in the Green Cleaning Awards sponsored by AS&U, HSC, and the Green Cleaning Network.
