HSC was pleased to welcome a record 15 teams of Chicago Public School culinary students to the Cooking up Change 2009 healthy cooking contest! Teams from the following schools faced off for the first prize of seeing their meal served in school cafeterias nationwide:

Team Spotlight: Richards Career Academy This year’s defending champs are the student chefs of Richards Career Academy, who won first place in Cooking up Change 2008 with a tasty, healthy meal inspired by Hispanic Heritage Month. The all-star chefs traveled to Washington, DC to prepare their meal with Obama family chef Sam Kass at a briefing on school food in May 2008, the same day it was served in the House of Representatives cafeteria and to more than 40,000 students nationwide!
