Healthy Schools Campaign is pleased to announce the 2010 award recognizing the efforts of schools around the nation with outstanding green cleaning programs. The Green Cleaning Award for Schools & Universities, presented in collaboration with American School & University magazine and The Green Cleaning Network, honors schools and their partners that embrace green principles and practices in their maintenance operations. The judging criteria for the award are based on the Five Simple Steps to Green Cleaning outlined in HSC's Quick & Easy Guide to Green Cleaning in Schools.

Q: Do you think there are times when Ready To Use (RTU) cleaning products are appropriate in place of concentrates? Several highly-publicized recent outbreaks of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in schools have ignited a rush for systems and products that will protect children from this "superbug" infection. It’s a scenario that is repeated thousands of times every day in schools across the country: germs are transferred from one student to another when they touch a common surface such as a door handle, desktop or the hand towel dispenser in the washroom.
