Our annual School Nurse Leadership Award recognizes school nurses from across the country who are blazing new trails in their field by re-imagining the role they play in school health, students’ academic success and the health of the larger community.

For many students, services provided by school nurses are important lifelines to well-being and academic success. But the role of a school nurse often goes far beyond that. School nurses are in a position to be important health leaders in their schools and communities. From green cleaning to prevention to health policy, school nurses are making big changes.

We created the School Nurse Leadership Award to celebrate these unsung heroes and to recognize excellence in school nursing.

Do you know a school nurse who is leading the charge to improve the health and wellness of students and staff? A school nurse who constantly goes the extra mile or has implemented a creative health-promoting initiative? If you know such a leader—or if it’s you!—we encourage you to apply for this award.

Applications are available starting today and are due by March 8, 2016. Up to five winners will be announced on National School Nurse Day, May 11, 2016, and will be highlighted among their peers across the country. Winners will also receive a $500 School Health gift card to use toward a catalog or online purchase.

Through the School Nurse Leadership Award, we’ll share the stories of school nurses who are changing the lives of students in their schools and communities. Whether a building or district nurse, or a state-wide school nurse leader, we want to highlight the people behind the great work that is happening to improve school health.
