In Chicago? Learn the Namaste Way!
Our friends at Namaste Charter School in Chicago are hosting a Learning the Namaste Way Institute October 23-25, and registration is now open!
Located on the Southwest Side of Chicago, Namaste Charter School emphasizes integrating health and wellness—physical, psychological and emotional—into the classroom agenda every day. Its holistic approach to education includes a healthy breakfast and lunch, 60 minutes of daily PE, at least 20 minutes of recess, 30-minute wellness education blocks (teaching students about everything from a balanced diet to the human body), and a “Morning Movement” session, usually a yoga routine, to start to the day. Sounds pretty great, huh? We think so, too. And it’s working: Nearly 87 perfect of Namaste students meet or exceed the state’s academic standards.
Take a look at their videos to watch these kids in action.
Because Namaste has found such positive results with its approach, the school now offers a three-day full immersion experience where educators and education leaders can learn the Namaste way first-hand. That means working with the school’s founder, Allison Slade, and her leadership team; observing K-8th grade Namaste classrooms; brainstorming ways to implement health and wellness practices into your school or district; and taking workshops on topics such as social emotional learning. Beyond the institute, Namaste staff will help support your efforts throughout the year.
When: October 23-25, 2013
