Schools and school districts are embracing green cleaning programs, creating healthy school environments for students and staff. The HSC team is happy to congratulate the 2011 Green Cleaning Award winners. The annual award recognizes schools that promote green principles and practices in their maintenance operations.

The judging criteria for the award are based on the Five Simple Steps to Green Cleaning outlined in HSC's Quick & Easy Guide to Green Cleaning in Schools.

This year, Columbia Public School District  in Columbia, MO won the Grand Award. Dixon Middle School in Provo, Utah received the Best New Program Award.

Catoosa Country Schools in Ringgold, GA; Lee’s Summit R-7 Public School District in Lee’s Summit, MO; and Salt Lake City School District received honorable mentions.

Last year, Columbia Public School District was recognized with the Best New Program Award. Director of custodial services Michael Jones participated in Healthy Schools Campaign’s 2011 Green Cleaning webinar series discussing strategies for starting and sustaining a green cleaning program.

The Green Cleaning Award for Schools and Universities is presented in collaboration with American School & University magazine and the Green Cleaning Network.
