Cooking up Change national finals happen on June 9

Ten teams of student chefs are headed to Washington, D.C. for the Cooking up Change national finals on June 9. They’ll compete to create the best school meal and speak up about the importance of healthy school food.

Here are a few of the incredible teams and their award-winning dishes:

Chicago

Chicago’s winning meal featured a curry chicken main dish with just enough spice. This team is one to watch — Chicago Vocational Career Academy competed in the national finals in 2012! Read more.

Houston

Their winner? A chicken chili sub with a heart as big as Texas. Plus, they created a whole new way to love vegetables. Read more.

Little Rock

These first-timers wowed the judges with a chicken flatbread and a little extra charm. Their take on school lunch: “It’s a big deal.” Read more.

Los Angeles

Two first-year chefs (and best friends) took the top prize with their meal, which included an innovative side dish that pairs broccoli with bean dip! Read more.

Jacksonville

Two of this team’s three chefs are returning to the national finals, and their dish featuring grilled pineapple was a huge crowd-pleaser. Read more.
