On #GivingTuesday, give the gift that will make a big difference in the lives of all our children.

Today is #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. Amid all the fun and excitement that comes with the holiday season, we ask that you take a moment to make a tax-deductible donation to Healthy Schools Campaign and give the gift of health. Your gift will make a big difference in the lives of all our children.

At Healthy Schools Campaign (HSC), we improve student health — and as a result, children’s learning and growth — by ensuring that kids have access to healthy school food, time for play and exercise during the school day, and healthy role models — inside and outside of school — who can help instill lifelong healthy habits.

Our mission of making schools healthier places for children to learn, grow and thrive — in Chicago and across the country — is more important than ever.

Healthy School Food
We work at the local, state and national levels to help schools to serve healthier, locally grown and less processed foods, and students are learning to cook and enjoy healthier foods through our Cooking up Change program.

Lifelong Healthy Habits
We help principals and teachers incorporate lessons about health, nutrition and physical activity into every part of the school day. From classrooms, to lunchrooms, to schoolyards and school fundraisers, students are learning how to live healthy lifestyles at school, and we work with parents to support these messages at home.

Physical Activity and Play
We helped bring back recess and a new and improved PE program to Chicago schools. Students are moving, thriving and developing healthy exercise habits that will follow them through life. With partners, we recently launched Space to Grow to transform schoolyards in low-income neighborhoods across Chicago into green spaces that encourage outdoor play, education and conservation.

Healthy Role Models
We help parents, principals, teachers and school nurses develop skills and knowledge to become healthy role models. When the adults in children’s lives deliver consistent messages about health and wellness, the healthy choice becomes the easy choice!

National Impact
We advocate for national policies that support the health of all children — by working to improve school health services for students and ensure that schools are cleaned to promote health and reduce chemical exposure. We also bring student voices to the national debate about healthier school food.

In this time of political gridlock and tight school budgets, this work is more important than ever.
