Green Cleaning Spotlight: Blackhawk Intermediate School, Beaver Falls, Pa.
May 03, 2010 | Written By: Healthy Schools Campaign
Congratulations to Blackhawk Intermediate School!
In the Green Cleaning Awards sponsored by HSC, the Green Cleaning Network and American School & University
magazine, the school earned the School District Grand Award for green cleaning.
Blackhawk Intermediate School made the switch to green cleaning by thoroughly testing Grean Seal-certified products that begin as concentrates and are then mixed with water. Custodians also began using microfiber cleaning cloths and better cleaning equipment. A battery-operated scrubber replaced regular damp mops in many areas, and carpets are maintained on a bi-monthly schedule using dry extraction techniques. They've also started using an efficient team-cleaning strategy and they've made strides toward green floor finish — or eliminating floor finishings altogether. Outdoors, new wildflowers and clover are creating a beautiful natural habitat for students to enjoy.
