Kickball Classic – August 10th!
Ah, kickball, everyone’s favorite recess activity. The sun on your face, the high drama before every roll, the thwack of a newly-inflated playground ball against your feet, the enthusiastic cheering of your classmates as you sprint for home base.
If kickball talk brings back good memories, join Healthy Schools Campaign for the first annual Kickball Classic on Saturday, August 10th at UIC Fields! Grab your friends, lace up those sneakers and join us for a fun day of kickball while supporting healthy, active students in Chicago. Proceeds benefit our work to ensure all children have the chance to enjoy physical activity and play at school.
Why must we support active students? At HSC, our work is rooted in research that healthy students are better learners. We have been working hard to integrate physical activity into the school day in Chicago. We encourage district policies that support wellness and activities, creating incentives and recognitions for schools that increase physical activity for students, and providing training and support to principals, teachers and parents.
But to continue, we need your help. In addition to raising funds, we will be collecting equipment to be donated to local Chicago Public Schools to be used for PE and recess. Please bring any of the following play equipment to the UIC Fields with you on August 10th:
Jump ropes
Volleyballs (Indoor and outdoor)
Basketballs (Indoor and outdoor)
Kickballs
Soccer balls
Footballs (foam)
Nets
Hula hoops
Sidewalk chalk
Tournament play starts at noon on August 10th and goes until 5 p.m.
Afterwards, cool off with food and drinks at Theory from 6-8 pm. (We’ll be presenting awards and drawing for raffle prizes, so don’t miss it!)
Register at kickballclassic.org. Wednesday, July 31st is the last day to register for the Kickball Classic! Sign up individually or as part of a team of 10.
