Know a School Nurse with Great Ideas?

HSC is accepting applications for the 2015 School Nurse Leadership Award.

School nurse Juanita Gryfinski borrowed an idea to make a real difference in her school: therapy dogs. “It started based on a conversation with a parent who was using therapy dogs in the nursing home down the street,” she said. “I thought, ‘Hmm, we have some students with behavioral challenges. What if we bring therapy dogs here?’”

Since then, dogs have helped with all kinds of issues for students with disabilities, encouraging calm behavior and acting as a fun incentive to get moving. Who wouldn’t want to take a walk with a dog during school?

Gryfinski was just one of the school nurses that received recognition in the 2014 School Nurse Leadership Award. And the time has come to recognize another group of school nurse leaders. Are you — or someone you know — one of them? We encourage you to apply — or nominate someone — for this award.

Applications are due by March 9, 2015 March 16, 2015. Up to five winners will be announced on National School Nurse Day, May 6, 2015, and will be highlighted among their peers across the country. Winners will also receive a $500 School Health gift card to use toward a catalog or online purchase.

Special thanks to our School Nurse Leadership Award sponsors — School Health Corporation and MAICO Diagnostics — for their commitment to school nurses and for making this award possible.

You may complete the application on behalf of yourself, or on behalf of a school nurse whom you’d like to recognize. Please contact us with any questions. Thank you in advance for your help. We look forward to receiving your application!
