May 15, 2012

Across the country, student chefs are cooking up change!

With limited ingredient lists, tight deadlines and real-life constraints, students in Cooking up Change are re-writing the recipe for school food. The contest challenges students to create a great-tasting school lunch that meets nutrition standards on a tight budget, using only ingredients commonly available for school food service.

For the 2011-2012 season, teams from six cities have taken on the challenge: Chicago, Denver, Jacksonville, Santa Ana, St. Louis, and Winston-Salem. Each of these cities hosted a local competition for students studying culinary arts. Now, the winning team from each local competition will travel to Washington, D.C. to face off in the national finals next Monday!

HSC will present the Cooking up Change national finals on Monday, May 21. The U.S. Department of Education in generously hosting the contest!
