Stay Active in December with Fit to Learn

December can be an unforgiving month here in Chicago. Snow and cold weather can make it hard to lead healthy and active lives—both at home and in schools.

That’s where our Fit to Learn program comes in. Fit to Learn is a professional development program focused on practical approaches to make health and wellness a regular part of the classroom experience. The training spotlights ways to incorporate healthy habits into daily learning, integrating nutrition education and fitness into classroom lessons that meet standards in math, reading, science, social studies, art and music.

We have three events scheduled during December that can help jump start physical activity in the classroom and throughout the school.

On Dec. 2, we’re hosting a webinar for principals on offering high-quality recess even when it’s too cold to go outside. Join us for this one-hour webinar to learn about the benefits of prioritizing recess, learn tips and strategies to provide yearlong quality recess programming, and get connected to useful resources for your school. The webinar is offered at no cost to participants and clock hours will be offered. This is a Fit to Learn professional development event for principals, presented by Healthy Schools Campaign. Find out more information and register.

Also on Dec. 2, we’re hosting a booster for teachers that features an expert from Mindful Practices who will lead a brainstorm session on how you can meet your Social Emotional Learning goals and promote healthy and active lifestyles. At this booster, you’ll work to develop your own lesson plan that incorporates Social Emotional Learning. Find out more information and register.

On Dec. 15, we’re hosting another booster for teachers on how to incorporate yoga into the classroom. An expert from Mindful Practices will bring her innovative and highly motivating lesson plans to life. Find out more information and register.
