Video Spotlight: Empowering Student Chefs through Cooking up Change

At the heart of Cooking up Change, HSC's healthy cooking contest, are the student chefs: high school students studying culinary arts in Chicago Public Schools. The students bring their talent, energy and passion for good food to the challenge of creating a healthy school meal with a very tight budget and limited ingredient list — the same constraints faced in school food service.

Chef David Blackmon, CPS program coordinator for culinary arts and hospitality, says the contest is about more than food: it's about empowering students. “It's an awesome experience” that has changed lives, he says. Check out David's story:
