Calling all Chicago Public School teachers!
Are health and wellness a priority for you? Do you wish there were more opportunities for your students to be physically active and practice healthy habits at school? Do you want to learn how to integrate those habits into your classroom? If so, Fit to Learn is the perfect professional development opportunity for you!
Fit to Learn is a free innovative professional development program for Chicago educators. It provides practical methods for making health and wellness a regular part of the school experience while meeting academic standards in math, reading, science, social studies, art, music and more. Just as important, Fit to Learn is about having fun and developing lifelong skills.
We’re currently recruiting for the 2016-2017 school year, which will kick-off with a one-day session that we’re offering on Aug. 3 and 4. This session sets the stage for booster sessions throughout the school year. At this session, you’ll be introduced to healthy lesson plans and research supporting what you know—that healthy, active students are better learners.
It’s something Kevin Lynch, a third-grade teacher at Andrew Jackson Language Academy, knew when he signed up for the summer session last year. “I’ve noticed that when they have the chance to get up and be active, they’re much more engaged and want to learn,” he said. “When kids are engaged, there’s a lot more learning that happens in the classroom.”
The summer session helped Kevin learn more about why that’s true and give him practical resources to incorporate more physical activity and nutrition education into his own classroom. And it can do the same for you! Space is limited, so sign up soon!
