Learn How the Illinois Healthy Student SPA Can Increase Funding for School Health Services & Improve Student Health

If we’ve learned anything from 2020, it’s that more students are in need of supportive physical and mental healthcare to address the challenges of the past year. Join Healthy Schools Campaign to learn about a federal policy shift that allows billing for all health services provided to all students enrolled in Medicaid — instead of just the 14 percent of Illinois students covered by Medicaid who have an IEP. This is an important resource and equity issue for all school districts in Illinois.

We’ll look at how more than a dozen states already are leveraging this opportunity to increase school nursing staff, hire school psychologists and create sustainable funding streams. Illinois needs to approve a Medicaid state plan amendment (SPA) — we’re calling it the Healthy Student SPA — to join them. We’ll discuss how you can lend your expertise and guidance to this important effort.
