Hobbies: I enjoy opportunities to spend time with my family and friends outdoors. This includes running with my dog on the lakefront and visiting wilderness areas across the country to hike and fly-fish. My favorite rainy day/indoor activities are painting, yoga and bouldering at a climbing gym.
Who are you?
I am the Production Coordinator for Healthy Schools Campaign. I transform HSC’s work into newsletters, blogs and messaging for families, community members and stakeholders.
What makes your job great?
Annie Dillard (one of my favorite authors) wrote, “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” The staff are dedicated to the HSC mission and I really thrive in HSC’s focused and passionate environment. This is an opportunity for me to combine my multifaceted background (digital media, youth and community programs, environmental conservation) and my health and wellness interests. My role provides space for making empowered decisions toward positive change and everyday opportunities to learn something new.
When did you come to Healthy Schools Campaign?
July 2019. Before HSC, I worked with the National Park Service in rural Alaska. As a park guide, I engaged local communities and youth to protect and preserve natural and cultural resources through educational programs and film making.
Why did you join Healthy Schools Campaign?
HSC’s work is comprehensive, multifaceted and so important. I am excited about the impact that creative endeavors like graphic design and photography can have on connecting people and effecting positive change.
Where does your motivation come from?
My family encourages personal wellness with nutritious and culturally significant foods, physical activity and self-expression. I have a deep respect for the lessons that my community elders provided throughout my Filipino-American youth, and I would not be the person that I am today without them. I am motivated by these gifts and I believe that every child should have access and opportunities to recognize and harness theirs too.
